Buddy of Sgt. Ed Glass Writes From Italy

Mrs. Barron, sister of Sgt. Edward Glass, who was killed in action in Italy has received a letter from Pfc. Jess LeBlanc, giving some information about the circumstances of Edward's death. Pfc. LeBlanc and Edward were pals and the picture printed in The Times several weeks ago showed the two together. Dated January 17, in Italy, the letter follows:

Welcome Letter

"Your most welcome letter was received yesterday and I do hope this letter will be a little comfort to you. You asked me if I or any of the boys from my company were with him when he met his death? I regret to say he had been attached to another company only a few days before he died. I spoke to some of the boys from that company and they said he met instant death without agony. But I can say he died like a man without fear.

"Knowing he was a Catholic same as myself I visited a nearby priest and we had a mass said for him. Speaking for myself and all the boys who knew him we regretted losing him, not only as a buddy, but as a relative.

Uncertain As to Burial

"Mrs. Baron [sic], I regret one thing, I cannot tell you the exact place he is buried, but I spoke to one of our intelligence officers and he said you would be notified from the war department soon.

"I will have to close as I have work to do, but knew I could take out time enough to drop you this letter. I do hope that this letter will be some comfort to you and the family. Although I don't know you I feel that I have just written to a very good friend."
