Mrs. Mary Andera, one of the oldest pioneers of Howard County, who died at her home near Protivin Aug. 1, 1933, after a lingering illness, was born in Bohemia Dec. 4, 1852. She was the daughter of John and Mary Kovarik.
In the year 1867 when 15 years old she came to America and later was married to Joseph Andera at Spillville, IA. Eight children were born to them. Those surviving are Joe Andera, (Agnes) Mrs. L. Pecinovsky, James Andera, (Bobena) Mrs. J. Michalec, Charles, and Frank Andera. Mr. Andera died March 9, 1904.
Mrs. Kovarik is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: John Kovarik, Anna Bily, Albert and Frank Kovarik and Katie. (The article does say Mrs. Kovarik.)
Funeral services were held Thursday August 3, at ten o'clock in Holy Trinity Church at Protivin of which Mrs. Andera was a member. The Rev. Skluzacek officiated. She was also a member of the Rosary society.
Burial was in Holy Trinity cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Edward Andera, Vitalis Andera, Louie Andera, James Pecinovsky, John Pecinovsky, and Jerome Ira.
Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were John Kovarik and daughter Mary, Mr. and Mrs. John Bruzek, all of New Prague, Minn., Mrs. Anna Bily and son Frank and wife of St. Patrick, Minn., Mrs. John M. Pesek and John Bily of St. Paul.
