TIMES January 27, 1870 P3 C2
DEATH--J. S. Neff, well known in this town and county, died suddenly at Lime Spring last Sunday morning and was buried on Monday afternoon. He had been sick but about ten days. A violent cold irritated his old lung difficulty-something like quick consumption set in and carried him off without ceremony. We visited him Saturday afternoon, and although we had little hope of his recovery, we had no idea that he would go so soon. He seemed to have no idea that his condition was critical, and expressed his conviction that he should be out in a few days.
We have known him long and intimately, and have found him steady and straight foward always ready to do what was right. We sincerely regret that he should have been thus early removed from a life of usefulness, from the companionship of family and friends, to try the realities of the world beyond, But here we have no "continuing city" and happy are we if we seek one whose "maker and builder is God."
The widow and the fatherless have our condolence in this their great bereavement.
