Another one of the excellent young men of our county has been removed from among us by the hand of death.
Bartlette G. Ray, the subject of this notice, possessed unusually active intellectual powers, and was applying himself very industriously to their cultivation. In the thoroughness with which he prepared his recitations, he was a worthy example for all our students. He thought for himself, and could conceive; on the bare word of another, no ideas which are susceptible of proof.
His manners were pleasing, and it is believed that all who became acquainted with him--respected him. But the crowning excellence of his character, was, that he was a christian. His room-mate during the past winter, can testify to the many interesting seasons of prayer they enjoyed together; and on his dying bed he endured with patience and pains of body he experienced, speaking frequently of God's goodness to him, and of the kindness with which friends, especially his mother, administered to his wants.A short time before he died, he said "All is well--I am willing to go." He attributed his salvation to the Saviour. On his mother's saying she could now give him up, he replied "I thank God for that," and soon expired, He died on the 5th inst. His age was 20 years, 6 months, and 23 days. At his funeral the audience listened to an interesting discourse by Rev. M. B. Felt.
