She leaves her father, two sisters, three brothers, seven nieces and five nephews to mourn her loss. Her mother preceded her to the beyond January 20, 1925.
Ida Sabina Goetsch was born at Watertown, Wisconsin October 27th, 1872. In 1878 she came with her parents to Iowa who located at Freemont township, Winneshiek county. In 1882 she again accompanied her parents who at this time established their home in North Albion township, Howard County. Here she grew to maturity and for the last twenty odd years of her life she was a most proficient helper and companion until she was compelled to mourn her mother's death, but still willingly and faithfully carrying on home and household duties until a year ago when because of failing health she laid aside her direct responsibilities and made her home with her sisters, Mrs. F. G. Thomas and Mrs. H. R. Evans. Saturday morning at the home of the former she was called to the Great Beyond in the presence of her two sisters who so faithfully and devoutedly ministered unto her during her illness.
Ida Goetsch attended the rural schools of Albion township. She was always a faithful pupil and made the best of her appointments. In 1891 she united with the Zion Evangelical church. After the death of her mother she enrolled as a member of the ladies aid to fill her mother's place. Her fine spirit, her unselfishness of purpose, her thoughtfulness of others, and her love for those who were of her immediate concern she revealed a most cherished christian character. Her faith in the reality and beauty of the heavenly life to which she has been _____ was as _____ that even those _____ ______her ____ and will ____ ______ her presence most can only feel that the larger and fuller life for which she had been so patiently preparing.
Ida's life of faithful service can best be expressed by the words of the "Builder".
A traveler journeying along life's highway,
Came on an evening cold and gray
To a chasm which was vast, deep and wide.
The traveler crossed in the twilight dim.
The sullen stream had no fear for him.
But he turned when safe on the other side,
And built a bridge to span the tide.
"Good friend", said a fellow pilgrim near
"You are wasting your time by building here,"
The weary traveler turned his head
"By the way I have come," he said,
"There followeth after me this day a youth
Whose feet must pass this way.
This chasm which has been like naught to me
To that fair-haired youth may a pitfall be.
He too must cross in the twilight dim,
My friend, I build this bridge for him."Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Schlesselman were held at the home and at the Zion Evangelical church.
