Amalia Grotian was born at Hammenstead, Province Hanover, Germany, March 17th, 1829, and died at the home of her son, Wm. H. Keune, in Albion township, on the morning of Dec, 1, 1907, at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 14 days.

She was married to Godfred H. Keune while yet in Germany, and later emigrated to America, settling in Canada where they lived nearly one year. In 1855 they came to Iowa and settled in Albion township where her husband died in 1885. From this time on she resided with her son, Wm. H. Keune, the rest of her days.

Nine children were born to their union, some of whom preceded the mother in death, while four sons, namely: Charley of Winneshiek Co.; Wm. H., Fred and John Keune of Howard Co.; Mrs. Dan Krueger, also of this county, Mrs. Pilger of North Dakota, Mrs. Andrew Ludwig, also of this county, a stepdaughter, survive the mother. Besides her children living, there remain to mourn 31 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Mother Keune became a member of the Evangelical church many years ago. Her endeavor was to be a consistent Christian. She was also a faithful attendant at the regular church services even when hardly able to. We well remember her last testimony for Christ only two weeks before her translation.

The funeral was held on Wednesday forenoon at the Albion Evangelical church, conducted by her pastor, J. C. Schwab. Interment at Cedar Hill cemetery.
