FUNERAL SERVICES FRIDAY FOR YOUNG CRESCO AREA FARMER

Virgil S. Walter, 37, Died Last Tuesday After Long Illness; Burial at Cedar Hill.

Funeral services for Virgil Sylvester Walter, 37, of Cresco, who died last Tuesday afternoon in the Cresco hospital following a lingering illness, were held in the Zion Evangelical United Brethren church Friday. The young Cresco man had been a patient in the hospital 10 days.

The Rev. H. H. Kitson, pastor, was in charge with the Rev. H. A. Stenberg of Wilton Junction delivering the message. Burial was in the Cedar Hill cemetery. The Bradley Funeral home had charge of the funeral arrangements. The Rev. Stenberg is a former Cresco pastor and was a friend of Mr. Walter's.

Virgil B. Walter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Walter, was born October 29, 1915. He received his education in the rural schools near his home and in the Cresco high school.

His occupation was farming, and when able, took an active part in the farm work. He lived his entire life on the farm.

He was a member of the Zion church, having joined September 30, 1938 upon completion of a course in catechism under the direction of the Rev. A. W. Schlesselman.

Survivors of Mr. Walter are his mother, Mrs. Mathilda Walter, and two brothers, Ervin Walter of Cresco, and Dale Walter of Wenatchee, Washington. Also surviving are two nieces, three nephews, several aunts and uncles, and other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, who died January 6, 1946.

Daniels of Bena, Minnesota, Gustav Walter of Iowa Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Piehn of Alta Vista, Mr. and Mrs. Frank White of Spring Valley, Orvalle Piehn of Morris, Illinois, Walden Piehn and Laura Falck of Harmony, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Powers of Burr Oak, Mr. and Mrs. John Wasko of Ottumwa, the Rev. and Mrs. H. A. Stenberg of Wilton Junction, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Walter of Wenatchee, Washington, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Glass of Arlington, Mrs. Jerry Zikuda of Cedar Rapids, and Roger Kratz of Cedar Rapids.
