Joshua G. Scheurer
Joshua G. Scheurer was born at LaPorte City, la., Oct. 15, 1882. In the year 1800 his parents moved to a farm near Ridgeway and again in 1910 to a farm north of Cresco.
On Aug. 3, 1920, he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Hughes. In March of this year they moved to their home in Florenceville.
As a young man Mr. Scheurer united with the Evangelical church at Ridgeway and later transferred his membership to the Zion church of which he was a faithful member at the time of his death. His uncle, L. Scheurer, was a minister and presiding elder In the Iowa conference.
During the latter part of August he took sick and went to Mercy hospital in Cresco for treatment. After a lingering illness he died Oct. 1, 1937, aged 54 years, 11 months and 16 days.
He leaves to mourn, his wife Mary, his sisters, Mrs. John Brown and Mrs. Albert Bronner, living north of Cresco, and many other relatives and friends. Mr. Scheurer was of a retiring disposition, a loving husband and a good neighbor. He will be missed by all who knew him.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon in the Zion church, the Rev. A. L. Walker officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Reynolds, accompanied by Mrs. Vernon Miller, sang "At the Place of Prayer," "Under His Wings," and "Have Thine Own Way." The pallbearers were Phil, Deno, Ed, Wesley and Rollie Kratz and Roy Koch. Burial was in Cedar Ridge cemetery.
