Grace Kostohryz

Grace Christina Kostohryz, 79, died Tuesday Oct, 24, 2000, at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco.

Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 27, at 11 a.m., at the Assumption Worship Center in Cresco, with the Rev. Henry Charipar presiding.

Mary Tremmel accompanied Pam Daley, who sang "Wind Beneath My Wings" and accompanied the congregation, which sang "On Eagles Wings," "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art."

Stacey Guertin was the reader and gifts were carried by Stacey Guertin, Shannon Walter and Shelley Kostohryz.

Casket bearers were grandchildren Shelley and Kyler Kostohryz, Stacey, Matthew and Kyle Guertin, Darren and Shannon Walter, and nephews, Virgil Lukes and Marvin Praska.

Honorary bearers were nieces and nephews Arlene Hron, Marlene Hron, Evelyn Moriarty, MaDonna Anderson, Gloria Leckness, Linda Miller, Janet Kovacs, Frances Hovorka, Kathy Trelstad, Keven Hovorka and Wilmar Pecinovsky.

Burial was at the Calvary Cemetery. The Conway Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Grace (Lukes) Kostohryz was born July 24, 1921, near Cresco, the daughter of William J. and Rose (Koudelka) Lukes. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. Grace attended the Cresco Schools.

She was married to John Kostohryz at the Assumption Catholic Church in
Cresco.

She was a member of the Western Fraternal Organization and the Assumption Rosary Society and enjoyed playing cards, baking and playing bingo. She also collected cookbooks. Grace especially enjoyed the time she got to spend with her family and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, John of Cresco; one son, John and Darlene
Kostohryz of Cresco; two daughters, Janelle and Gary Guertin of Riceville,
and Julie and Fred Walter of Cresco; seven grandchildren, Shelley and Kyler Kostohryz, Stacey, Matthew and Kyle Guertin, Darren and Shannon Walter; and one sister, Evelyn Wendl of Cresco.

Grace Christina Kostohryz was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Louis, Raymond and Leonard Lukes; and two sisters, Irene Praska and Caroline Pecinovsky.
