Riceville Recorder, February 1947

Adolf Frederich Arndt

Adolf Fredrick Arndt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Arndt, was born in Mertendorf, Germany, Oct. 20, 1864 and passed away at his home in Riceville, Ia at 1:30 p.m., Feb. 10, 1947, at the age of 82 years, 3 months, and 20 days.

The cause of his death was cerebral hemorrage. As an infant he was baptized, and later confirmed, in the Lutheran faith. In this faith he died, trusting solely in his Savior, Jesus Christ, for heaven and salvation.

Following the service in the Lutheran Church in which his pastor, the Rev. Walter Schroederl, spoke words of divine comfort to his loved ones, (text of sermon: Isaiah 38:1), he was bedded to rest in Riverside cemetery, Thursday afternoon, February 13, there to sleep in peace until the great Resurrection morn.

In September, 1898, he was united in holy wedlock to Mary Hohn. This union was blessed with four sons and five daughters: Arthur, Walter, Gertrude, now Mrs. Edward Rieken; Heddy, now Mrs. W.P. Brockney; Ida, now Mrs. George Rieken; Edward; Albert; Minnie, now Mrs. Howard Penney; Martha, now Mrs. Walter Timmermann.

One sister, Mrs. Amelia Milhan, preceded him in death seven years ago. Mourning his departure, besides his wife and children are 12 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

"A precious one from us is gone; a voice we loved is stilled; a place is vacant in our home, which never can be stilled. God in his wisdom has recalled the boon his loved had given and while the body slumbers here, the soul is safe in heaven."
