VIRGIL K. HOVEY, 82, GREENLEAFTON
Services were held Monday, Sept. 7 at Saetersdal Lutheran Church for Virgil K. Hovey, 82, Greenleafton, who died Friday morning, Sept. 4, 1998, in his home of natural causes.
Intern Pastor Rhea Evanson officiated at the 11 a.m. services. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Hovey was born Aug. 19, 1916, in York Township, Fillmore County, son of Knute and Martha (Leitz) Hovey. He attended Hovey Country School in York Township through the eighth grade. He helped his parents farm until his marriage to Roelvine Terbeest Sept. 28, 1938, at her parent's home in York Township.
The couple made their home on a farm in Bristol Township, Fillmore County, where they farmed for 44 years when they retired and moved into Greenleafton in 1982. He continued to help on the farm for a number of years. She preceded him in death May 26, 1994.
He was a lifelong member of Saetersdal Lutheran Church in York Township where he served as a council member and head usher for many years. Following his retirement he enjoyed cutting wood, mowing and trimming lawns, and getting rid of weeds.
Survivors include three daughters. Pat (Mrs. Guy) Soland; Mary (Mrs. David) Sikkink, both of Preston, and Joan (Mrs.Chuck) O'Connor, Harmony; and a son, Larry, Lime Springs. Also 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Goldie (Mrs. Ted) Kappers, Spring Valley, and two brothers, Harvey and Wayne Hovey, both of Lime Springs.
He was preceded in death by his wife, two grandsons, a brother, and a sister.
Thauwald Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
