JOHNSON RITES HELD MONDAY
Funeral services for Alvie James Johnson, 68, of Elma were Monday at 1:30 p.m. from St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Elma. Dr. Ernest Yunghans, vicar. officiated. Burial was in Jerico Lutheran Church Cemetery. Casket bearers were Phil McCarville, John Hayden, LeRoy Mohrfeld, Joe Bushed, Vern Worple, and Lee Moorman.
Mr. Johnson died Friday, September 14, at Saint Joseph's Hospital at New Hampton after a lingering illness. He was born on a farm in Howard County, April 30, 1911, the son of Joseph and Carrie (Northness) Johnson. Until his retirement Mr. Johnson was a farmer and a truck driver. He was baptised and confirmed at the Jerico Lutheran Church and was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Elma.
Survivors include: his wife, Gertrude, three sons, Republican State Representative Jim Johnson and Charles Johnson, both of Elma, Gary of New Hampton; two daughters, Mrs. Calvin (Joann) Kimble and Mrs. Muriel Reetz of Elma; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Landswerk and Mrs. Josephine Marik, both of Cresco; two brothers, Olaf and Lester, of Elma; and 13 grandchildren.
