BOY DROWNED
A most appalling clamity over shadows our town and people. Near the close of the Sabbath School Celebration today, tidings were brought that Clinny Jewett was drowned while bathing in the river. An examination of the fact reported, confirmed the report. A widowed mother, a lonely brother and a little sister, are left to mourn his untimely end. Deeply do we mourn their great bereavement.
Drowned while bathing in the river near New Oregon, July 27th, Clinton Ernest; son of the late F. H., and E. C. Jewett, aged nine years, two months, and two days.
Oh Clinnie, darling! crushingly fell
The stroke; for oh, we loved thee well
And our hearts will grieve through well we know
That, (taken from this world of woe)
Blest are the early dead.Kind Father! in compassion deep
Thou givest Thy beloved sleep
Guide Thou our faltering steps we pray
Through sorrow's night, to that bright day
Where all shall cease to weep. What joy, when life and its scenes are o'er
And our spirits seek the "other shore"
To find in the celestial sphere
The loved ones missed from our pathway here
Not lost, but gone before.Submitted by Joy Moore 10/4/2018
