We regret to learn that Myrtello Barber, a young man of fine promise and possessed of many friends in this vicinity, was shot and killed by a guerrilla near Rolla, North Carolina about the 13th of April. Mr. Barber was a member of Co. I, 9th Iowa Infantry if our memory serves us, and a brother of Mrs. Edmund Gillett and of Mrs. Shock residing near this place. We understand that the guerrilla, who was dressed in federal uniform was captured, tried and sentenced to be shot, making a full confession of his guilt.
