FATAL ACCIDENT
On Friday last, Thomas son of Wm. H. Powell Esq., of this place was killed by an accedental discarge of a gun in the hands of Edgar Paul. It appears that the boys were sent to carry the gun for a short distance where it was to be given over to Mr. Paul. The gun had been loaded for some time, the charge being wet, the caps were taken off the tubes and sent home but of this the boys were ignorant. Thomas it seems went to look into the barell of the gun, which being cocked, was accidentally discharged, the percussion remaining upon the tube serving to ignite the powder, the entire charge entering near the eye. The concussion was so violent as to raise the skull and break the jaw, producing instant death. The deceased, a beautiful bright little lad was about ten years old while his companion was some three years his senior.
