Matilda Ann Lockwood was born in New York City, Aug. 28, 1842, and died Jan. 14, 1913, at 7 p.m., aged 70 years. 4 months, 17 days.

In 1856 she came with her parents to Riceville, Iowa, and when twenty years of age was married to Mr. Alexander Hamilton. To this union were born four boys and six girls.

In 1904 the husband and father was laid to rest and now but five of the children remain to mourn the loss of mother.

Feb. 6, 1906, Mrs. Hamilton was married to Richard Wentworth of Cresco, who stood faithfully by her until the last and remains to mourn the loss of a faithful companion.

Mrs. Wentworth was raised a Christian and found the Saviour a comfort in the last illness. She was a patient sufferer for two years, the last half of which she was confined to a chair day and night. Death as a result of heart trouble and dropsy came as a relief.

The funeral was conducted from the house by Pastor E. W. Wolfe of the Advestist church in Riceville, of which faith she was a member.

Among the many present were a son, two daughters, a step-daughter, and a grand-daughter and husband, namely; Geo. Hamilton of Mason City, Mrs. Emma Davis of Independence, Miss Lottie Hamilton of Cresco, Mrs. Alva Norton of Burr Oak, and Mr. and Mrs. Will Templeton of Riceville. Words of comfort were spoken from Eccl. 9:5 and I Thess. 4:16. The remains were laid to rest in the Cresco Oaklawn Cemetery. She sleeps in Jesus until the glad day of the resurrection; then the Master will call and the faithful will come forth to be united never more to part. Five of the children remain to mourn but not as those who have no hope.
