John G. Kline was born in 1833 at Cambridge, Ohio, where he spent most of his boyhood days, and at the age of eighteen moved with his parents to Portage, Wis. In 1858 he was married to Mary A. Fish. There was born to that union three children, Orlin A., who passed away in 1899, John Jay of Sioux City, Iowa, and Minnie B. Sprung of Riceville, Iowa.

In 1863 they moved to Iowa and the rest of his life has been spent in Mitchell and Howard counties.

He has been in poor health for the past year, but never gave up until last Sunday, lingering until Wednesday morning, Jan. 3, at seven o'clock.

He was a man of quiet disposition, a good husband, a kind father, and a good neighbor. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He has silently crossed the bar.

The funeral service was held at the home in Riceville, Friday, Jan. 5, at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. C. C. Casper, pastor of the Methodist church, interment being made in Riverside cemetery.

Those from out of town in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. J. Jay Kline of Sioux City, Iowa, Mrs. Maria Carpenter, Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Fish, Merle Fish, Mrs. I. H. Doudna, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Eckford and R. T. Eckford of Osage.
