The community was shocked and saddened when it became known that Forrest Ford had passed away. His death was comparatively sudden, being caused by septic poisoning resulting from an abscess, after a short illness.
Forrest, oldest son of Frank and Priscilla Ford, was born in Cedar County, Iowa, June 22, 1897, and died August 16, 1918, at his home near Riceville, Iowa. His mother perceded him in death six months ago, which makes the bereavement doubly hard for the remaining members of the family.
With the father are left to mourn one brother and four sisters, George, Zeffie, Grace and Agnes at home, and Mrs. Effie Jennison of near Riceville, two neices, his grandparents of Tipton, and grandfather at Mt. Vernon.
Forrest was a boy who was always ready and willing to lend a hand, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him as well as the immediate family of loved ones.
We shall so miss our cheery, bright neighbor lad, but in our memory we shall always carry his merry whistle as he hurried by to school, swinging the dinner pails; and the Sabbaths that found him in his place at the Round Grove Sunday School, a place in the class and the hearts of teacher and fellow scholars that no other lad can fill. But, our Heavently Father has called; His providence we cannot understand but may we obediently learn the lesson He wishes to teach, ever remembering that "He knoweth best."
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. C. W. Hempstead at the home on Saturday afternoon, and the body was taken to Tipton for interment beside the mother.
