DEATH OF J. C. WEBSTER
Information came to friends and relatives in town last Friday that J. C. Webster had died while under surgical operation at Chicago. Mr. Webster was at one time superintendent of the Riceville schools, or about twenty-five or six years ago when the public school numbered but four rooms, held in the two old buildings. Later he was elected to the county superintendency and served for several terms, later going into the real estate and banking business at Cresco.
The following brief notice appeared in the Cresco Plain Dealer of last week:
"The community was greatly shocked yesterday afternoon to learn of the death at noon of J. C. Webster at Mercy hospital in Chicago where on Sunday last he underwent an operation for gallstones. He underwent a similar operation about five years ago but has had sever recurrent attacks which necessitated another operation in the hope of relief. He had several attacks after leaving Cresco last Friday and the weakened condition in which they left him probably caused a failure to rally from the operation.
It is expected that the remains will arrive in Cresco on Saturday morning for interment in the family lot in the Kendallville cemetery, with the funeral in charge of the Masonic fraternity."
