Relatives and friends received a severe shock last Friday, Feb. 25, on the receipt by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Cutting, of a telegram, first that Mrs. C. L. Boomhower was seriusly sick, calling them to her bedside at Marion, Ill. This telegram was followed almost immediately by another carrying the sad news of her death. The messages were prostrating to Mr. and Mrs. Cutting on account of their total unexpectedness, not knowing that she was sick.

She was taken with the prevailing epidemic grip, but had not been sick long. A letter written several days previously to Mr. and Mrs. Cutting failed to reach them, leaving them wholly unprepared for the end. Death was due to heart failure as a resultant of the grip.

Mabel W. Cutting, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. Cutting, was born June 8, 1889, on the farm in Jamestown township. The major part of her youth and unmarried life was lived in Riceville where her parents took up their residence.

As a young woman she went to Waterloo and secured a clerkship in the Black department store. While there she became acquainted with Charles L. Boomhower. This acquaintance ripened into mutual liking and marriage. The wedding occurred at Houston, Texas, Feb. 15, 1912, where Mr. Boomhower had gone to take a position as collector for a house outfitting establishment. They were at Houston about two years and then on account of the climate not being agreeable, Mr. Boomhower was transferred to Marion, Ill., in similar work with the same company.

Mrs. Boomhower was a member of the First Baptist church of Riceville, since Sept 30, 1900.

Besides the husband she leaves two children, a girl, Mabel Maxine, and a boy, Charles Francis, bereft of a mother's care.

The body was accompanied to Riceville by Mr. Boomhower and the two little children, and funeral services were held at the Baptist church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. E. Bodenham, assisted by Rev. C. W. Hempstead of the Congregational church. The body was laid at rest in Riverside cemetery.
