Henry J. Auringer was born in Onondaga County, New York Jan. 15,1848 and passed away at his home in Riceville, Iowa July 1, 1915, age 67 years, 5 months, and 16 days. March 10, 1869 he was united in marriage with Miss Nellie M. Williams, who survived him.
In the autumn of 1872 he moved with his family to Iowa. After spending the winter first east of Saratoga, he moved to Jamestown where he resided for thirty years, then moved to Riceville where for the past ten years he had been engaged in business. He was justice of the peace for sixteen years and a member of the Masonic Order.
He had been apparently in the best of health until last Christmas day, when he complained of not feeling well. Although the best medical skill was employed, the malignant tumor was sapping his life away day by day. He was patient and appreciated so much the kind words and acts of the family and friends, and realizing that soon he must leave, he set his house in order, and many times gave his testimony that Jesus had saved him and was ready to move out whenever the summons should come, and last Thursday as the sun was sinking below the western horizon, with strong faith and blessed hope he went to join the loved ones on the other shore and to wait the coming of those left behind, and is saying, "Meet me there." He leaves to mourn his going besides his wife, four sons and two daughters, one sister and fifteen grandchildren and an host of friends.
The burial service was held at the Congregation church, Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. C. W. Hempstead, the pastor. A large congregation of friends was present to extend sympathy and pay final respects to the departed. Interment was made in Riverside cemetery.
