George Wells was born in Tioga county, New York, February 19, 1832, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. G. A Bailey in New Hampton, Iowa, Sunday September 11, 1910, at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 25 days.
He was married March 8, 1860 to Lydia J. Bacon, at Castile, New York. Five daughters were born to this union, the oldest one dying in infancy; Mrs. Alice M. Crooks, who died Aug. 4, 1900; Mrs. Fannie C. Bailey of New Hampton; Mrs. Mary E Rowley of Maynard; and Edna A., who died in infancy.
Mr. and Mrs. Wells came west the same spring they were married and settled on a farm near Riceville, and in 1877 moved into Riceville. In October, 1888, they moved to New Hampton. After the death of his wife, which occurred Dec. 7, 1904, he made his home with his two daughters.
In early life he joined the Congregational church and remained a faithful member till his death.
Besides his two daughters, he leaves one sister, Mrs. F. C. Rice of Park Rapids, Minnesota
