Robert McNeil was born in Monmouth county, New Jersey, in 1842, and died March 27, 1908, at 2:10 a.m., at his home in McIntire, Iowa, aged 65 years, 3 months, and 12 days.
He came to Iowa with his parents in 1853 and lived on a farm near Waukon, where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage with Margarette Broaghan in 1865. To this union were born three children, Mary, George, and Francis. They continued to reside on the home farm until 1885, when they moved to Howard county, where they lived for a few years; then came to McIntire, which has since been their home.
Mr. McNeil has been failing in health since the death of Mrs. Mary Heinz at Minneapolis in February, 1907, a daughter whose first thought and care was always for father and mother, whose life was spent in comforting and caring for them.
A son, George McNeil, and daughter, Mrs. Frances Buttolph, together with their mother are left to mourn the loss of a kind and loving father, a faithful and devoted husband.
The funeral services were held Monday morning, March 30, at the Catholic church on the Wapsie. Wm. Schrody, of Waukon, and his wife, a sister of Mrs. McNeil, were in attendance at the funeral. Mrs. McNeil has the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community.
