AVIS PICKETT CALLED HOME
Avis, daughter of C. B. and Jessie West Pickett, passed from the earthly to the heavenly home, March second, 1908.
She was born at Carimona, Minn., March 5th, 1889, moved to Saratoga, Iowa, in 1890, and to Riceville, Iowa in 1904. At the time of her death she was in second year of High School work. She was possessed of a sunny disposition, thereby drawing about her many friends, in whose loving memory she will evermore be cherished. Especially was this trait shown in the home life, ever looking on the bright side--the sympathetic, devoted sister; the sharer of burdens incident to home-life. How desolate the home without her only stricken hearts can know, save He from whom no human experience is hidden. Soon after coming to Riceville she accepted Jesus as her Saviour, and in 1906 joyfully entered into covenant with the people of God. Among the tokens of love, (which were nemerous) at the funeral was a wreath from classmates in High School, also a pillow from M. W. A., and not the least, the beautiful songs of her S. S. classmates. The exercises of High School were suspended and teachers and students followed the procession to the burial.
From the home to which she has so recently gone, we seem to hear her message of comfort saying:
"I shine in the light of God
His image stamps my brow
Through the shadow of death my feet have trod
And I reign in glory now.I have learned the song they sing
Whom Jesus hath made free
And the glorious walls of heaven ring
With my new-born melody! No sin, no grief, no pain
Safe in my happy home
My fears all fled, my doubts all slain
My hour of triumph come.Friends of my mortal years
The trusted and the true
You are walking still the vale of tears
But I wait to welcome you."
