DEATH OF FRED E. WILKES
After an illness of several weeks, Mr. Fred E. Wilkes passed away at the Wilkes Hotel in Riceville, last Wednesday night, March 8, 1905.
Mr. Wilkes was born at Chilotte Center, Chautauqua county, New York, February 4, 1859, where he lived, until 1878, when he came to Riveville with his parents. He has lived here the greater part of the time since. He built, owned and conducted the Wilkes hotel, one of the most popular hotels on the line. Fred Wilkes was public spirited, liberal, kind-hearted, and square and honest in his dealings. He had a large number of warm friends, who sympathize with the wife and daughter, mother, three brothers and a sister who are left to mourn his death.
The funeral was held at the hotel Friday afternoon at half-past two, conducted by Rev. A. K. Lewis, of the Baptist church. A large number were present.

Source: Twice-A-Week Plain Dealer Mar. 17, 1905, FP, C3Fred Wilkes, landlord of the Wilkes hotel at Riceville, died at that place last Wednesday night. His funeral was held Friday, a number from here attending.
