Miss Lillian Miles Married.
One of the prettiest of the numerous spring weddings was that of Miss Lillian Belle Miles and Mr. Frank W. Fisher, which took place at the First Congregational church Monday evening May 14, 1906, at 8 o’clock. The altar was banked with palms, ferns and vines and surmounted with Easter lilies, forming an effective background for the bridal party during the ceremony. While the guests were assembling Mrs. Bowlus, organist of the church, played the Lohengrin Overture and for the wedding march played the Bridal Chorus from the same opera. The bridal party entered through the east aisle and was led by Messrs. John Hyland and Thomas Boyle. Next came the bridesmaids, Miss Florence Hyland and Miss Josephine Sullivan, who wore white swiss gowns and carried bouquets of pink roses. They were followed by the maid of honor, Miss Louise Miles of Madison, Wis., sister of the bride, who wore pink silk mousseline and carried bride’s roses. The bride came last. She wore a beautiful gown of white French lawn, trim-{sic} trimmed with ruffles of Mechlin lace and medallions of lace insertion, and carried bride’s roses. The groom and best man, Arthur Fisher, proceeded to the altar through the west aisle. The pastor of the church, the Rev. J. Percival Huggett, read the marriage service, and t the conclusion of the ceremony the organist played Mendelssohn’s wedding march.
A reception followed t the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hyland, 519 Fourth avenue, to which fifty guests were invited. The decorations were palms, ferns, pink roses, pink carnations and apple blossoms. Mrs. Benjamin Hoff welcomed the guests at the door. In the receiving line with the bridal party were the bride’s sister and cousin, Miss Elvira Miles and Mrs. T. E. Glass of Cresco, and the groom’s sister,,Mrs. W. D. Howard of Chicago. The gifts were numerous and handsome and included quantities of cut glass, silver, linen, china, furniture, etc. Refreshments were served by Misses Meriam, Brown, Hubbard and Heins.
Mr. and Mrs. Fisher will occupy a suit of rooms at the Hyland residence and will be at home to their friends after June 1.
Both the bride and groom are well known and have many friends. The bride came to this city from Cresco four years ago and was bookkeeper for John H. Taft & Co. She is an artist of considerable ability and possesses musical talent, her singing having given pleasure on numerous occasions.
Mr. Fisher is one of the best - known salesmen in the city, in which capacity be has served sixteen years. He was successively with G. K. Barton & Co., Barton, Wiltsie & Co., John H. Taft & Co., in the same building. He has recently become manager of the cloak and suit department for Mme Clark Co.
Besides the out-of-town guests already mentioned those present at the wedding were Irvin Barker of Iowa City, cousin of bride; Miss Roxie Bell, of Springvllle and Miss Mary Hyland of Vinton—Cedar Rapids Republican
