Married Forty-Two Years.
Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Hendricks, assisted by two of the later generation, last week, celebrated the 42nd anniversary of their marriage which took place in Cresco, Feb. 14, 1864.
Forty-two years seems a long time in looking forward, but it is said to be surprisingly short in taking a view backward. Mr. and Mrs. Hendricks, as pioneers and continuous residents of Howard County and Jamestown Township, have had an opportunity of seeing many material changes in this vicinity. The county, {illegible because of fold in paper} deer and other wild game were quite plentiful when they settled on the farm adjoining town and commenced life together. Conditions then were not as they are now. Machinery, what little there was of it, was a luxury and labor was performed by hand. Mr. Hendricks, however, saw the advantages of raising and feeding stock for market and was one of the first to enter into the industry which has proven so successful.
Mr. and Mrs. Hendricks have experienced a happy and succesful{sic} 42 years and recently retired from active farming, and built a modern home where it is hoped they will enjoy many more returns of the day.
