Yesterday evening the garden of the old Sheldon place was a ‘gay and festive scene,” lit by Chinese lanterns, a lovely young moon, and many a pair of brilliant eyes. Miss Charity Hommel, whose respected father occupies the place, was married by Dr. Paxton to Mr. B. T. Lowry, brother of Professor Lowry, principal of the high school here. A very large company of beautiful ladies and good men was assembled to grace the occasion- About 9 o’clock the happy pair, with two bridesmaids, Miss Jennie Smith and Miss Jennie Davis, and two groomsmen, Mr. Hommel Jr. and Mr. Owen Owens took their places under one of the illuminated trees and were united for life, by Dr. Paxton in a very impressive manner. After congratulations a delicious collation was served by some of the prettiest girls here, or anywhere else. Then we streamed through the parlors to see the gifts; these were many, both substantial and elegant, but we noticed chiefly the beautiful stone ware sets for the table and toilet—the gift we understand of the young friends of the bride and groom. The bride’s delicate beauty and graceful figure were set off by a rich dark brown silk, trimmed with cream white Spanish lace. Miss Smith wore some very pretty stuff, indescribable by masculine pens, and Miss Davis was dressed in a lovely dark silk.
