AGED WOMAN DIES AT COUNTY FARM
MISS EMELINE SAMPLE PASSED AWAY AFTER LONG ILLNESS.Was Seventy Years of Age and Had Lived at County Farm for Fifty Years-Was Blind for Many Years.
Miss Emeline Sample, an aged lady who has resided at the county farm east of town for half a century, died Wednesday night after a long illness. She has been an invalid for a long time, having been confined to her bed with rheumatism and complications for a long period and was entirely blind. Her case was in many ways a pitiable one, although she was always cheerful in her suffering, and never complained of her misfortunes.
Miss Sample was brought to the county farm here from Wayland vicinity before she was twenty years of age and has resided there continuously for the past fifty years. Not many people in town knew her, yet she was one of the oldest residents of the county, and has probably been longer at the county farm than any other person there at the present time. So far as known she has few relatives, although a sister is living in Nebraska, and she, too, is an invalid. Little is known of the family. Miss Sample along with her other afflictions was blind, and had been for many years.
A short funeral service was held this morning at the Bird Undertaking rooms, conducted by Dr. H. A. Ingham of the First Methodist church. Brief tributes were also paid by several Mt. Pleasant ladies, who knew the deceased. Those who spoke were: Mrs. Davenport, Mrs. Rhodes, Mrs. Roberts, Mrs. W. P. Young and Mrs. Van Tuyl.
The body was taken to Wayland to be buried in the Wayland Cemetery.
