It appears that her name is Elizabeth Ann Rater and they were married on 8 April 1872. She must have died between 1885 when they are enumerated in the 1885 census and 1892 when Edward remarried.

Edward Dawson and Lizzie Rader were married on 8 April 1872 in Wapello County, Iowa;

Edward Dawson, age 46, born Jefferson Co, Iowa was married to Matilda Tillotson, age 41, born Ohio on 2 July 1892 in Wapello County, Iowa
Groom's Father's Name: Patrick Dawson
Groom's Mother's Name: Catherine Douds
Bride's Father's Name: Henry Tillotson
Bride's Mother's Name: Catherine Minkley

They are enumerated in Green, Wapello County, Iowa census in 1900 with his daughter, Mary A. Dawson, born June 1884 in Iowa and their daughter Clara Dawson, born April 1893 in Iowa.

Moses John O'Brien, age 26, born Wapello County, Iowa and Mary Adeline Dawson, age 21, born Wapello County, Iowa were married on 22 April 1903 in Ottumwa, Wapello, Iowa
Groom's Father's Name: Moses O'Brien
Groom's Mother's Name: Mary Finn
Bride's Father's Name: Edward Dawson
Bride's Mother's Name: Elizabeth Anne Rater

Another marriage is for a son:
William Dawson, age 21, born Ottumwa, Iowa married Jennie E. Larson, age 16, born Ohio on 2 September 1897 in Ottumwa, Wapello, Iowa
Groom's Father's Name: Edward Dawson
Groom's Mother's Name: Elizabeth Rater

Bride's Mother's Name: Carlson

In the 1880 Wapello County Census, there are three children enumerated with Edward and Elizabeth:
Katie Dawson, age 7; John Dawson, age 5 and William Dawson, age 3.

In the 1885 Wapello County, Iowa state census, the family consists of Edward, Elizabeth and children: Katie, John, William and Mary.
