The History of Henry County, Iowa published in 1982 by the Henry County Bicentennial Committee, page 181 gives the following information written by Edna E. Elliott about George ELLIOTT.
George Elliott was born in Maryland sometime in the 1820's. He came to Henry County in 1837. He settled on land on the western border of the county in Tippecanoe township. George started west and married his wife Dorcas who was born in Ohio. They spent a few years in Ohio and the following children were born there: Orbison, Christina, Sarah, Prudence, and Isabella. After arriving in Henry County the following children were born: William, Sarah A., Marha, John W., Mary, Julia, and Nancy. The family lived in a log cabin. The Elliott Farm was entered as an original document from the government at the Land Office in Burlington, Iowa on December 1, 1841. It had 242 acres and a value of $1500 was placed on it by census records. George moved west to Oregon looking for gold. He made the trek in a covered wagon, settling in Baker, Oregon. His farm in Iowa was sold to his brother, John E. Elliott, May 26, 1865. John Elliott was born in Ohio in 1809.
