In the History of Henry County, Iowa, (1986) there is a biography by Evelyn Hummel of the Jay Family focusing on Sarah Jay Hunt and her family. It does state Sarah JAY, the daughter of Jemima MILLS and James JAY, was born on March 3, 1808 in Newberry County, South Carolina and died in 1872 buried at the Cedar Creek Friends Cemetery north of Salem, Iowa. She married Thomas Hunt in Winchester, Indiana on January 29, 1828. Sarah came to Henry County in 1842 with her three daughters and her brothers, JAMES JAY, JR., ISAAC JAY, AND DEMPSEY JAY. Her sister Anna and her husband MARMADUKE JAY also came at the same time. Other Jay relatives were already in Trenton Township. The JAY family migrated from South Carolina to Ohio around 1805, to Wayne County, Indiana in 1822, to Henry County, in 1842. They were of the Quaker faith and were pioneers of the Quaker church in Iowa. MARMADUKE JAY evidently belonged to the Abolition Friends of Salem, Iowa. Several Jay families are listed in the 1850 census in Trenton Township. Perhaps this will help you in locating the information you are seeking.
