HAD BEEN DEAD FOR HOURS

ALFRED COLSON FOUND LIFE-LESS AT REAR OF RESIDENCE.

Went to Feed His Hogs Thursday Morning and Did Not Return. Body Found by John Mitchell.

Alfred Colson, a well known colored man of this city, was found dead this morning about nine o'clock in the rear of his place northeast of the stock yards by Mr. John Michell. Mr. Colson had been dead about twenty-four hours.

Mr. and Mrs. Colson live in the northeast part of town. Mrs. Colson is sick in bed. Yesterday morning Mr. Colson went out to feed his pigs. He did not return during the day or night. Mrs. Colson was without fire or anything to eat during this time and was unable to get word to her neighbors. This morning Mr. Mitchell in crossing the premises found the body of Mr. Colson and it was clear that he dropped dead as he was about to feed his pigs. Neighbors at once assisted Mrs. Colson who was in a sad plight being hungry and cold. Mr. Colson was about 65 years of age and was an old soldier. No inquest will be held as it was very evident that he died from natural causes.

The funeral arrangements have not been made.
