ALFRED MASON PASSES AWAY - Aged Colored Man Dies At His Home in this City
Was a member of McFarland Post, G.A.R., and Well Known Over Town - Leaves Several Children
Alfred Mason, one of the oldest and best known colored men of the city, died at his home in the northeast part of town Sunday night. He had been in feeble health for a long time, death being due to an old age and a general decline in health. Mr. Mason was born in Missouri in 1839, and served in the Civil War. He was a member of the local McFarland Post G.A.R. and was highly respected among his own people as well as others who knew him. His wife died about a year ago, and he is survived by several children, one of whom is a graduate of Iowa Weslsyan. He also has a number of more distant relatives living. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the house, and interment will take place at Forest Home. Contributed by Francine Thompson, Momcine@aol.com
