Goldsmith, John Rhoads 1852 - 1922

Salem Weekly News - February 9, 1922

John Rhoads Goldsmith, son of David and Sitha Goldsmith, was born in Hamilton County, Ohio February 29, 1852 and departed this life January 31, 1922, aged 69 years, 11 months, and 10 days. When a child he came with his parents to Iowa where they settled near Charleston. Here he grew to manhood.

He was married to Hannah C. Whetstone. To this union was born one child. Both mother and child passed away in 1899. He moved to Salem, Iowa in 1884 where he has since resided.

In 1891 to Mary B. Armer. To this union were born six children.

He jointed the M.E. Church early in life and was an earnest and faithful worker as long as health permitted.

He leaves to mourn their loss four children----Mabel, Raymond F., Oliver W., at home, and Cora G. of Ft. Madison; also a sister, Mrs. Samantha McCleary of Los Angeles, California and a brother, David, of Billings, Oklahoma, besides several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at 10 A.M. Thursday, in the M.E. Church, conducted by pastor Victor Bloomquist.

*** Transcriber’s note: This has been typed as it was printed in the newspaper. There is obviously an error in either the date of death of Hannah Goldsmith, or in John’s marriage to Mary Armer.
