Alice Beck
Alice M. Beck, 84, of Danville, died at 3:25 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2002, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born Aug. 29, 1917, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Herbert and Lydia Hansen Hoelzen. She married Waith U.G. Beck on March 9, 1939, at Oak Street Baptist Church in Burlington. He died Aug. 13, 1971.
Mrs. Beck was a graduate of Burlington High School and Burlington Junior College. She was a homemaker and was secretary for the Danville School Board for many years.
She was a member of Danville First Baptist Church and the Entre Nous Club and held many state offices in the Baptist church. She taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir until the spring of 2002.
She enjoyed cooking for people, having company, gardening, tending her flowers and feeding and watching birds.
Survivors include one daughter, Sally McAleer of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Larry and Robert Beck, both of Danville; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Irma Wheeler of LaPlatta, Md., and Doris Fehseke of West Burlington.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will begin at noon today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mrs. Beck will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Danville First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Harry Hollingsworth officiating. Burial will be in Jaggar Cemetery, rural Danville.
A memorial has been established for his church.
