Winfield Beacon-Wayland News May 3, 1984

Mrs. Vivian Zehr, 76, or rural Wayland, died Sunday, April 29, 1984 at Washington County Hospital of an apparent heart attack. She had been in failing health.

Family graveside services were held at 12 o’clock at the North Hill Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 1 P.M. Tuesday, May 1, 1984 at the United Methodist Church in Wayland. The Rev. Richard Dunn officiated. Jones Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements. A memorial fund for the Methodist Church in Wayland has been established.

She was born August 30, 1907 in Wayland, the daughter of Dr. Edwards and Eve Belle Rinker Allen. She was a graduate of Wayland high school and the University of Iowa. She married Lyle J. Zehr on June 1, 1932 in Wayland. He died on April 10, 1984.

Mrs. Zehr lived most of her life in Henry County and worked with her husband in operating Zehr Funeral Home, a furniture store, and a tax office all in Wayland. She was a member of the Methodist Church, a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star and T.T.T.

Survivors include: a daughter, Maribelle Cash of Wayland; two foster sons, William Alston of El Tore, California and Robert Alston of Stratford, Connecticut; and five grandchildren, Tonni and Andrea Kondora, and Todd, Brett, and Eric Alston. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Hoyte Allen.
