FUNERAL OF LITTLE BERNICE SCHANTZ

The funeral of little Bernice Schantz who was accidently shot by her en year old brother on Tuesday of last week, was held at the Mennonite church here last Thursday at 2 o'clock by Rev. Slack. The church was filled to overflowing with sympathetic friends who, by their presence, gave assurance to the bereaved family, that they shared with them the deep sorrow that has come to them with such crushing force. The pallbearers were six little girls of the neighborhood, playmates and friends of the happy, carefree child whose innocent life came to an end in tragedy.

Bernice Mildred Schantz was born October 12, 1914 and died September 21, 1920 aged 5 years, 11 months, and 9 days. She was the daughter of Henry and Bertha Miller Schantz. She was an exceptional child in many ways, bright, active, always busy with some childish task, or helping about the home. She was a sunbeam in the home that is now dark with sorrow since the light of her young life has gone out. After the funeral service at the church, the little white casket with its precious burden was taken to North Hill Cemetery where it was laid to rest.
