Wayland News, Oct. 7, 1926:
Mrs. Sophia Schadt of Near Trenton Passed Away

Mrs. Sophia Schadt living west of Trenton, passed away Thursday evening at the Memorial hospital in Mt. Pleasant, the result of a complication of diseases which have caused her great suffering the past year the last three months of which she has been confined to her bed most of the time.

Mrs. Schadt would have been 64 years old had she lived until the twenty-fourth of this month. For the past forty-two years she has lived on a farm west of Trenton where she was known and loved as a good neighbor and friend. Her husband preceded her in death some fourteen years ago.

She is survived by seven children; Will, near Trenton; Frank at home; Mrs. Ida Ridinger, near Trenton; Mrs Anna Calkins, Packwood; Mrs. Sophia Schlarbaum, Keosauqua; Mrs. Jessie Shuppy, Lockridge and Ed of Mt. Pleasant and a number of grandchildren. One sister also survives her, Mrs. John Hanschild of Chicago.

After a short service in the home the funeral was held at Green Mound, at one o'clock, Sunday afternoon, with Rev. Hildebridle in charge. A quartetee(sic) from Wayland comprising Mrs. Allen Wenger, Mrs. Homer Kauffman, W. E. Boller and Warren Allen, with Mrs. O. P. Boshart at the piano, sang a number of selections requested by the family.

The funeral was largely attended as Mrs. Schadt was well known and highly esteemed in the community which has been her home for more than forty years.
