P. Morley Dies At 89

BATAVIA - Powell D. Morley, 89, died at the Jefferson County Hospital Saturday at 9:06 a.m., where he had been a patient for four days.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Campbell Funeral Chapel in Batavia with the Rev. Kenneth Carr, a grandson, officiating. Burial will be in the Batavia Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the missions of Paraguay for David and Joed Hill.

Morley was born March 22, 1885, in Henry County near Winfield, the son of John and Allie Snelson Morley. He had lived in the Batavia community for over 70 years.

He was employed for 30 years at the bank in Batavia and was in the insurance business for 30 years. He was a member of the Batavia United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher, superintendent of the Sunday school and treasurer for many years. He also served as treasurer of the town of Batavia and secretary-treasurer for the school board.

His marriage to Emma Martha Fansher took place Dec. 31, 1907. She died in 1963.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Vera Shipler and Mrs. Lee Carr, both of Batavia; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, three step great-grandchildren and five step great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one great-grandson.
