Salem Weekly – March 5, 1914

An old resident of Salem passed away at his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The following is taken from a paper published in that city:

Henry H. Hess, aged 77 years, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1891, died last evening at his home on 110 North Pine Street. He was a member of the G.A.R. and formerly was a practicing dentist. He was born in Ionia County, Michigan, in 1837, and removed to Iowa at the beginning of the Civil War. He served almost five years in the Firs Iowa Cavalry.

The funeral will be held from the D. F. Law undertaking rooms Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock. The G.A.R. will have charge of the services.

Mr. Hess is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth M. Hess, and the daughters—Mrs. Allie Arndt of Pueblo, Mrs. Diantha Burch and Miss Aurda L. Hess of Colorado Springs. Other survivors are a sisters, Mrs. Lydia Prescott of Oakland California and a brother, Oliver G. Hess, a prominent attorney in Trinidad.
