Jacob Conrad was born in Butler County, Ohio, April 17, 1846 and died March 29, 1914, age 67 years, 11 months and 3 days. In his early days he came with his parents to Iowa and was married to Catherine Schlatter in April 1868. To this union were born four sons of whom Joseph, John, and Jacob are living. One son died in infancy. He was a member of the Amish Mennonite church since his youth. He had lived in this community for nearly fifty years and was well known. His death brings back to us the early days when things were done differently. When Mr. Conrad came to Iowa with his father and mother, they went down the Ohio river from Cincinnati and up the Mississippi to Keokuk thus making an all water trip. It took them eight or ten days. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon March 22 at the Eicher church where interment was made.
