Lyle 'Butch' Barnes

Lyle "Butch" Barnes, 77, of 1005 S. Sixth St., died at 7:30 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2003, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Behner Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jan Burns-Hintze officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association or First Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Barnes was born Jan. 11, 1926, in Mount Pleasant. He married Ruth M. Schafer Jan. 15, 1947, in Fairfield.

Mr. Barnes lived in the Fairfield community for 60 years. He graduated from Fairfield High School with the class of 1943. He was a self-employed mechanic and retired from the B & G Service, of which he was part owner. he also was a United States Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Barnes was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Fairfield Elks Lodge No. 1192, VFW No. 2271, American Legion Post No. 47 and The Walton Club.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Rick Barnes and wife Pam of Waukee, and Tim Barnes and wife Toni of Keota; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two sisters, Nellie Klein and Luanna "Stubby" Klein, both of Fairfield.

Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by one sister, Eleanor Widmer; and three brothers, Gene, Harold and Dale Barnes.
