AGED RESIDENT GONE.

MRS. AMANDA REESCER PASSED AWAY MONDAY MORNING. HAD BEEN A SLAVE.

Aged Colored Woman Died Monday Morning After Long and Useful Life. Funeral Arrangements Have Not Been Made.

Mrs. Amanda Reescer, an aged colored resident of this city, passed away Monday morning shortly before ten o'clock at her home in the north part of town. She had been failing in health for some time, so that her death was not unlooked for.

Mrs. Reescer was a very worthy woman of the highest integrity, and respected by all who knew her. Many years of her life were spent in service for others, she having been a slave in the south in her girlhood days.

She was born in Clark County, Mo., August 5th, 1836, making her 83 years, 2 months and one day old.

Deceased leaves to mourn her death Miss Anna, who made her home with her mother, Ed, and Mrs. Florence Watts, both of this city, and Will of Chicago. Arrangements for the funeral will not be made until the arrival of Mrs. Watts, who is absent from the city.

AMANDA REESCER.

Mrs. Amanda Reescer, one of the oldest colored residents of this city and a charter member of the second Baptist church, passed away at her home at 405 East Mill at 10:10 o'clock Monday morning, October 6, 1919, after six months of severe illness. Mrs. Reescer, was until the time of her death a devoted Christian woman, an active member in her church and was highly respected and beloved by young and all. She was one of the early settlers of this county, coming here in 1863, she being an ex-slave and was born August 5th, 1863 [sic:1836] in St. Francisville, Clark County, Mo.

She was married to Mr. William Reescer, who preceded her 26 years ago at death. Eleven children were born to this union, seven who have passed on and four who survive her, also two grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends who grieve at her passing. The children who survive her are Miss Anna Reescer, the devoted daughter, who has had all the care of her mother and has spent her life to the care and comfort of that mother, Mr. William Reescer, of Chicago, Mr. Ed Reescer of this city and Mrs. James Watts of this city, also two grand-daughters, Mrs. Lee Slaughter of this city, Mrs. June Taylor of Centerville, Iowa.

The funeral was held Friday at 2:30 p.m. from the Second Baptist church, Rev. Handy, pastor, officiating. Interment was at Forest Home.
