DEATH OF A FORMER RESIDENT OF MT. PLEASANT.

Many of the older citizens will remember that during the winter of 1875 or 76, a large number of families from Russia, calling themselves Mennonites, came to this place and after spending the winter here, went on to Nebraska and Kansas and made a permanent settlement. One of the prominent men of the party, in fact a leader among them, was a man by the name of C. Jansen, who resided in the house now owned and occupied by Mr. Chas. Green, on West Monroe street [Note: 600 W. Monroe]. He settled on a large farm near Beatrice, Neb. where he has since resided. Word comes from there that a few days ago he died suddenly from a stroke of apoplexy. While here he lost a young lady daughter who is buried in Forest Home [Note: Old City Cemetery], and in the past few years he has stopped off here several times while passing through, for the purpose of visiting her grave.
