Roberta Mae Callaway

Roberta Mae Callaway, 77, of Mt. Pleasant died Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Park Place Elder Living in Mt. Pleasant.

A funeral is set for 10 a.m. Monday at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Bryan Katchay officiating. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at the memorial chapel, where the family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m.

Mrs. Callaway was born Oct. 16, 1936, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Merle O. and Mary Todd Scarff. She married Edward Callaway Aug. 17, 1955, in Milan, Illinois. He died July 5, 2008.

Mrs. Callaway was a 1955 graduated of Mt. Pleasant Community High School.

She worked 15 years as the office manager of Mt. Pleasant Mental Health Institute. Then for 27 years, she worked as an administrator assistant at Southeast Iowa Electric Association. She retired in 1998.

Mrs. Callaway was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

She volunteered as the entertainment chairwoman for Midwest Old Threshers for more than 25 years.

She loved bluegrass music and showing horses. Her favorite hobbies included camping and crocheting. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include: two daughters, Linda Fowler and husband Buddy and Connie Meth and husband Duane, all of Mt. Pleasant; a twin brother, Robert Scarff of Mt. Pleasant; three sisters, Helen Perrott and Rosemary Smith, both of Mt. Pleasant, and Patricia Kerr of Burlington; three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Ruth Van Trump.
