JOHN L. VIRDEN

John L. Virden, son of Ross and Emily Virden was born in Mt. Pleasant, Ia. May 1, 1855 and when just a small boy the family moved onto a farm near Wesley Chapel church and later returned to Mt. Pleasant where the father engaged in the mercantile business. Mr. Virden clerked for his father for a time and then went into the grocery business in which he was engaged for more than 40 years, in Mt. Pleasant.

He was married March 2, 1881, to Miss Onita R. Johnson of Mt. Pleasant and to them five children were born: Geroge E., of Los Angeles, Calif., Leslie R. deceased, Mrs. Imogene Masters, Walter J. and Ernest of Mt. Pleasant.

Mr. Virden passed away April 25, 1931 at the age of 75 years, 11 months, and 25 days. He is survived by those named, one brother, A.E. Virden of Mt. Pleasant, two sisters, Mrs. Clara Duncan of Sioux City, Ia., and Mrs. Olive Coate of Wallace, Idaho, and three grandchildren.

The funeral was held at the Ralph Crane undertaking parlor on Monday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Jas. A. Wilson of Mystic, Ia. The body was placed in the mausoleum and will be buried after the arrival of the son, George from California.

Many friends were in attendance.
