OBITUARY.

Died, July 9, at the home of her brother, Calvin Caulk near Trenton, Melinda Jane Caulk, daughter of Eleven and Nancy Jane Caulk. Eleven Caulk with his wife and one or two children came to Iowa in 1836, being among the earliest settlers of the present county of Henry. Here, struggling with the hardships of a new country, unsettled, but rich and productive they raised a family of six children, four daughters and two sons. One by one all passed to the beyond, leaving Jane and Calvin.

Jane, born in 1832, never married and spent the last years of her life in her brother's family. Her health was frail, and for many years before her death she was a hopeless invalid. The kindly care of her brother and his family never failed her, and with tender hands they laid her beside others of the family in Richwoods cemetery.
