Widow Of Former Superintendent Of Hospital Dies At Iowa City.

Iowa City, Ia., July 18: Mrs. Marcus W. Ranney, widow of a pioneer superintendent of the asylum at Mt. Pleasant and faculty member at S.U.I., died here this morning, aged eighty-one.

She was childless, but had reared a half dozen children of others to manhood and womanhood, giving all of them excellent starts in life. She was a remarkable bibliophile, and it is believed that her extraordinary library is worth $25,000, being possibly with out a duplicate in private collections in the state. The remains will be taken to Davenport for cremation, Friday morning, although Dr. Ranney is buried at Mt. Pleasant.
