Kenneth Billingsley

Kenneth Billingsley, 74, of Fairfield, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A funeral is at 1 p.m. Monday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. D.J. Meyers officiating. Interment will be at Hillsboro Cemetery.

Friends will be able to greet the family after the funeral at Hillsboro Community Church.

A memorial has been established and will be determined by the family at a later date.

Mr. Billingsley was born Jan. 16, 1939, in Salem, the son of Howard Boyd and Zeffa Oral Nichols Billingsley. He married Nancy L. Cook May 10, 1958, at Fairfield Free Methodist Church.

He attended the Hillsboro School.

He worked as a contractor all of his life building spec homes which were then sold. His skills included carpentry, roofing, plastering and mason work.

He is noted for building the inaugural platform for President George H. Bush, which was later used for President Bill Clinton's inauguration.

He was an avid history buff and especially enjoyed researching the Civil War.

Favorite hobbies included fishing and raccoon hunting with his dogs.

He was a member of the Carpenters' Union.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy of Fairfield; two sons, Jim Billingsley and spouse Marsh of Oquawka, Ill., and Kelly Billingsley of Mount Pleasant; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; and six brothers.
